REVEREND RICHMOND BROWN (1923-2015)
A baby boy born (one of four children) November 23, 1923 in Daphne, Alabama to the parents of Son and Dora Brown, was given the name Peter Richmond Brown. He attended school in Baldwin County, Alabama. As a young child, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized and grew up as a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Daphne, AL. After moving to Los Angeles, CA in the 1940s he united with Rose Hills Baptist Church and served faithfully as a Deacon and choir director during the time Brother Floyd Meeks was musician.
In 1959 many exciting events occurred in the life of Richmond Brown:
He united in marriage to First Lady Opal Brown.
He accepted his call into the ministry in 1959. The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; Because the LORD has anointed me to preach… the Word… be instant in season, out of season Isaiah 61:1a; 2 Timothy 4:2a
Shortly after accepting his call in ministry, he received a vision from God instructing him to organize a church. A meeting was held in the home of Reverend & Mrs. Richmond Brown to discuss organizing the church.
He was ordained into the ministry by Reverend Robert W. Mc Craw, Moderator of the Baptist Pacific District of California.
He received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree on Sunday, December 19, 2010 from Bible Believers Christian College and Seminary (presented during the Education Department’s 23rd Annual Christmas Candle Light Program).
Under Pastor Richmond Brown’s leadership of preaching and teaching, many souls have been saved and the membership of the church has grown through candidates for baptism and members uniting by letter or Christian experience.
Numerous ministers have been licensed and/or ordained by Pastor Brown. Many ministries have been added to the church under his leadership of over 54 years.
