The Heritage Music Foundation, Inc (founder/CEO, Dr. Margaret Douroux ) presented this Griot Awards to our members for preserving the traditions and customs in the African American community. An African tribal storyteller and musician is called a griot. The griot's role was to preserve the genealogies and oral traditions of the tribe, but their wisdom took on a significant role beyond traditions, they were the glue that held the community together."
